Oita Prefecture is famous for its hot springs, and Amagase ranks with Beppu and Yufuin as one of Oita’s best-known hot spring areas. One can enjoy a bath at a western hotel, or at one of the Japanese Inns that line the river. If one is brave one can even enjoy an open-air bath right in the river, where hot spring water mixes with cold river water for just the right temperature.
