Jizo will warmly welcome you here in Takatsuka Atago Jizoson

Look at this unique view! More than 2,000 of Jizo is waiting for you in Takatsuka Atago Jizoson. It’s located in Amagase area, about half an hour driving from central Hita. Takatsuka Atago Jizoson is established by high-ranking priest Gyoki over a thousand years ago. It’s combining both temple and shrine style, and it is said Jizo can help you realizing any kind of wishes (but just one wish for each person!), so people come here to pray for passing exams, recovering from illness, etc.
After you walk up stairs and Sando, you’ll find a big bell, main shrine, and thousands of Jizo lining up in order.  You can see each Jizo has different figures. Cute, serious, big, or little ones. This place is also known as Ohyakudo-mairi*, but instead of visiting a hundred times, you can write down your wish on the paper one hundred times and bring it to here!

*Japanese folk religious practice which a person visit and pray at the same shrine or temple for a hundred times
