In 2002 Soccer’s World Cup was co-hosted by Japan and Korea, and the African nation of Cameroon chose to hold their pre-tournament training camp at the Taio Sports Center in Nakatsue. At that time the center had to upgrade its facilities, including lodging and playing fields, to world-class quality. The quality has been maintained, and the Taio Sports Center remains a popular location for teams from around Japan, from youth to adult, to hold their overnight training camps.
